importunity

, we
didn’t invent it
(we can’t pronounce nude)
is this the right language?

remember the time afterward
you asked if it was strange
(that sudden urge) to pray

give thanks for this
lifetime (agreement)
finished in a moment

sometimes (we cry, lord)
we wake up to a soundtrack
in our eye
we didn’t invent

we have to wonder
(,we) creation or myth?
nightgown, or shadow
shapes in Gethsemane?

Weekly Writing Challenge: Haiku Catchoo!

101. The Little Girl Enters

The little girl enters Rite-Aid through the automatic doors.  She stops to say: “Thank you for opening, door.”  Hallmark cards, ice cream and soap, seem less sincere.

(Inspired by) Thanks

Why are you downcast, o my soul?
You say death’s within me?
Then here’s my card of thanks.
Please take this early submission:

Thank you, God, for writing my life–adding twists so it wasn’t a bore.

Thank you, my family, for allowing me many lives and loving each version more.

Thank you, mom and dad, for ascribing me worth and holding me with pride.

Thank you, women–my other selves.  You were kind and compassionate mirrors.

Thank you, blueberries and pomegranates, you made me very happy.

Thank you, sunshine, for warming my body and penetrating my soul.

Thank you, who prayed for me.  Thank you.  Thank you.

Thank you, Kansas dirt under my feet.  You gave my heart a home.

Thank you, beauty, for without you–life I could not have swallowed.

Thank you, newborn babes and cries of joy.

Thank you, my cats and dogs; God was in your eyes.

With all my undying heart and gratitude, I will yet praise Him.

            –Thank you.
