Country house

you can half-guess
she makes childish rope swing love, or suppose she’s a honeyed
buttercup the smell of sunrise
hovering over cowbell hills

you can half-guess
she’s a ladyhouse unashamed
making you smile at her career
of wrapping light & daisies
around your boyish nakedness

you can half-guess
she arranges dusk
and candor equally well
always poised and punctual
spread across sweet hay bales

  1. I love that expression ‘ladyhouse’ – it’s so polite! I also like the repetition of line ‘you can half-guess’, like a nudge in the ribs as folk pass by the ‘ladyhouse’! I especially like the lines:
‘making you smile at her career
    of wrapping light & daisies
    around your boyish nakedness’.

      1. That’s because everyone is trying to be all highfalutin’ and artistical. Not me. A hordog is a horndog is a horndog. 🙂 Seriously good poem.
