i sent you a love letter
in a little yellow envelope
you sent me a scenic postcard

now it’s the sculpture
at the waterfront
(of all things)

that I’m writing about, –
a body inclined to poetry
muscles set in concrete

anchored for the both of us
eating salt and fire, –
our solace in the wind

  1. Far away, those letters gapped the distance. Our daughter, SIL, and granddaughters were in London for five years with her work. We could mail at the company here in Houston for U.S. rate and they would bulk it over. The number of letters we wrote could be counted on one hand. Hers were zilch. But then we had Skype and FaceTime quicker and easier than mail. We did send BDay cards though.
