She’s Reading All The Books With Red Covers

Why yes, she looks like a real writer now, – trite
As she types and squints through reading glasses.

In strange frequency (she thanks you very much)
She’s reading My Wicked Wicked Ways on page 95.

Light reading from Sharon Elwell’s retired shelf
Surely puts honesty back in the palm of her hands.

And in case anybody’s reading the Red Bandana she says,
Ants On The Melons is peppier. And for your information,

All the dirty dishes in the world will certainly wait,
until she’s done reading all the books with red covers.

{A nod to the red books beside me for Quickly
and submitted to Real Toads Tuesday Platform}

  1. The voice of this poem is very well done. The tone, pace and pause are perfectly balanced to convey the speaker’s attitude in the moment.

    I love how you make poetry elegant, insightful and so accessible to poetry-challenge people like me.
    Lovely as always 🙂
