(Inspired by) the Word

The word I’ve been reading over and over again in Psalms is ‘Selah.‘  In the gospel accounts, Jesus said the words he speaks are Spirit and life.  I’m not sure if Jesus’ lips ever uttered selah, but it has been penned over 70-something times in the psalms and is also in Habakkuk.  Enamored with words, I have fallen for selah as a sort of substitution for amen.  I like the idea that it denotes: Stopping.  Stopping to listen to what has just been said.  Stopping.  Stopping to give praise. Stopping to lift up your hands, your heart, whatever you can.  Stopping for the sake of a pause.

Selah!  Tell me, what words sink into your skin?
