MORNING RUN WITH DOGS

Muzzled and hauling up Burnt Mill Road,

Muscles in motion bulge and impress.

Leather lies loose between his and her fingers;

Perky, pony-tailed woman and proud, shirtless man.

They are a pack, pummeling pavement with

Age-worn tennis shoes and black padded paws.

Eyes are locked forward and jaws hang open,

Hot bodies thawing cool, crisp morning air.

Like riding a bike without any hands,

White alpha leads with a back leg missing.

A courageous heart pounds, pushing past impossible

Pinning wings to dormant dreams of people walking by.
